GDPR & THE SHIPPING INDUSTRY SEMINAR
16 OCT, 2017
The seminar will focus on the General Data Protection Regulation (679/2016/EU) (“GDPR”) on the protection and processing of personal data and on the free movement of such data which will come into force on 25 May 2018. Failure to comply can result in fines.
The GDPR will replace the current Directive 95/46/EC (the “Data Protection Directive”). It will introduce various new concepts while a number of existing features of the Data Protection Directive will remain in force. The GDPR aims to harmonize national data protection laws across the EU and a number of new features introduced correspond with technological developments.
Some of the GDPR new key requirements relate to:
- territorial scope;
- obligations on data controllers;
- legitimate interests;
- obligations of data processors;
- DPA enforcement powers;
- rights of the data subjects;
- notification of personal data breaches;
- transfer of personal data.
Preparing for compliance with the GDPR will take companies time. This seminar will provide important information so companies can plan ahead for a smooth transition.
